Some would say John VII was a special pope...
...but others would agree that he was a simple, ordinary man, whom God chose to lead his Church for a very short time (just two years!). But John VII was more than a simple man; during his short tenure as the leader of the Church, he helped rebuild (and build from scratch) many beautiful shrines and churches.
What little more is known about his John's life can be found on the Catholic Encyclopedia.
I *think* square halos were used when the person depicted in the artwork was still alive as of their depiction...
