Jesus Trusts

As the Catholic Encyclopedia puts it quite simply: The elevation of Christ into heaven by His own power in presence of His disciples the fortieth day after His Resurrection. It is narrated in Mark 16:19, Luke 24:51, and in the first chapter of the Acts of the Apostles:
"As they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them.
They said, 'Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.'
Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day's journey away."
As we near the feast of the Ascension, we pray that we may be ready when Jesus returns in such a fasion... for we "know not the day nor the hour!"
Wait, Lord! We'll do better next time...we promise!
Those guys look pretty angry. Could this be the incident where the townspeople tried to throw him off the cliff?
I always imagined the Lord "passing through the midst of them" like Bugs Bunny in the "Dogpile on the rabbit" scene.
Nope, it is the Ascension. I forgot who painted it, but the title was specific to the Ascension. I never really pictured it like this--off the edge of a cliff. i always pictured Jesus standing at the top of a little hill with the disciples all around and then taking off vertically!
