Saint Peter. My how many times he has seen the front page of LOLSaints.com. And every time, he provides even more entertainment for us to share in. Have a great Saturday! (Most of the saints here will be sleeping in today, thus the short description ;-).
One key points up, the other points down. A look on his face as though he is clarifying - something - perhaps there is a key to hell as well as heaven, and he unlocks it for those who choose to enter.
the other key is to earth :-)
There are traditionally two keys, one gold and one silver, representing the two conditions necessary for salvation: the silver key represents repentance, which comes from the person concerned; and the gold key represents forgiveness, which comes from God.
The supreme keys are also depicted on the Vatican City and Papal Coats of Arms and are said "to bind and to unloose" one in gold and the other in silver.

@ Shelly Fravala - Thanks for the detailed explanation! Quite helpful.
@ Anuarite - lol, quite true! — for more on that, see Matthew 18.
Thanks for this, it was hilarious, I never thought of it like that before "Anyone know what the second key is for?" lol
and thanks Shelly for the additional info
