St Rafqa was born in 1832 in Himlaya. In 1861, she pronounced her vows and entered the Maronite Order as a nun. She did, among other things, catechism work in Deir El Qamar. At one point she prayed to be allowed to suffer like Jesus did, and her wish was granted. She was beatified in 1925 and canonical investigation began in 1926. She was then canonized in 2001 by Pope John Paul II.
