Dis way to da Heavenz
But I jus' wants to sleep!
The painting of "The Vision of Saint Bruno," by Italian Sebastiano Ricci, happened to turn up in Texas late last year. And we're so much better off for it; what a beautiful and vibrant work of art!
Bruno was the founder of the Carthusian order, known for hermitage and prayerfulness. Indeed, Bruno himself was praised for his "great spirit of prayer, extreme mortification, and a filial devotion to the Blessed Virgin." In the painting above, we assume he is being show the path to heaven (notice the beautiful skull, symbolizing death, in his left arm?) for his great faith on Earth.
May we all have the prayerfulness and devout faith of Bruno!
