I can see clearly now...
Saint Lucy, a virgin and martyr, is the patron saint of those with eye troubles. Legend has it that her eyes were gouged out before her martyrdom—whether or not this exact fact is true, she is almost always depicted as holding her eyes in a chalice or on a plate...
We do know for certain, though, that she decided to give her dowry to the poor after consecrating herself a virgin, and did all she could to help the poor. She was stabbed to death after (miraculously) guards could not move her from where she stood or burn her, during the persecution of Diocletian (around the year 300).
