(Please, St. John of the Cross—don't frown on us!). Above is St. John of the Cross; arguably one of the most impressive and important mystics in the history of the Church.

His Dark Night of the Soul is a bellwether work on Catholic mystical theology, and describes the seven-step journey a soul must take to travel from its worldly, fleshly existence, to unity with God. Many who have read the Dark Night of the Soul have had their view of how to grow deeper in their relationship with the lord grow tremendously.

"...and thus I shall see You in Your glory, and You will see me in Your glory; and You will see Yourself in me in Your glory, and I shall see myself in You in Your glory; and thus I may be like to You in Your glory, and You may be like to me in Your glory and my glory may be Your glory, and Your glory my glory; and I shall be You in Your glory, and You will be me in Your glory, because Your glory itself will be my glory."
