What's the matter?
As a doctor of the Church, Saint Ambrose was known for his holiness, his range and beauty of written works, and the great deeds he did to help strengthen our early Church. He put the smack down on Arianism, spoke with St. Basil (and thus helped in a small way with Western/Eastern relations), and prayed early and often.
Saint Ambrose especially cherished the virtue of chastity, and often preached about the beauty of virginity. He helped guide many women to find a fruitful relationship with the Lord through their consecration, and also was one of the first to suggest that virginity is a sign of a very productive and fruitful society... words that need to be re-echoed today!
