Joseph is patient!
This is one of the few paintings that explores the relationship between Joseph and Jesus during Jesus' formative years. It's sad that we don't have more knowledge of this stage of Jesus' life, because it was surely inspirational in it's simplicity, its love, and its teaching moments.

Now, Son, I'd love to hear Your story, but I really have to finish this table for Mrs. Ben-Hur -- You know how she gets when we don't deliver on time....
