Stairway to Heaven?
He was elevated to a saint!
Upon his deathbed, St. Joseph of Cupertino stated, 'The jackass has begun to climb the mountain'. The jackass he was refering to was his earthly body.
St. Joseph of Cupertino was a Franciscan priest who lived in Italy from 1603-1663. He was a sickly child and had a learning disability which made it very difficult for him to read or write. Because of his learning disabilities he was often regarded as simple. He applied to several friaries before being accepted into the Friars Minor.
St Joseph was known for his great piety and during masses would sometimes float into the air, coming down only when ordered to by his superiors. For this he became known as 'The Flying Saint'.
Even though he had a learning disability and endured great struggles in his personal life, Joseph was able to live a life of great holiness and devotion to Jesus. He is known as a patron saint of pilots and astronauts and of students.
