I haz rite understanding of chastity and courage!
This small Italian girl, only twelve years old when she was stabbed 14 times by a man who tried to take away her virginity, is a great example to all of us of someone who has the proper understanding of the Biblical saying, "But I say to you, offer no resistance to one who is evil. When someone strikes you on (your) right cheek, turn the other one to him as well" (Matthew 5:39)
Instead of simply turning and allowing her human dignity to be stripped away, Maria fought to preserve her dignity, but was ultimately killed for doing so. That, my friends, is true Christian courage. The courage of a martyr! If only we could be so virtuous!
