Long Beard - Haz Stigmata?
Why is there a hole in my beard?
St. Sharbel (also known as St. Charbel) was a Lebanese priest and hermit of the Maronite Rite. He lived from 1828 to 1898. Not only was he associated with miracles during his life, he was also associated with them after his death.
It is said that an "extraordinary brightness" surrounded his grave for 45 days following his death. This was reason enough to exhume the body, which was found to be incorrupt and exuding a strange liquid (some of which was soaked up by cloths and have been associated with miracles as well). The last time the body was exhumed was in 1955. It was noted then that the body was not only incorrupt, but it had the flexibility of a living body.
Another well know fact about St. Sharbel is that he had a rockn' beard!
